HIV/AIDS

  1. Mobilize and sensitize youths and communities to participate in mitigating the devastating impacts of HIV/AIDS among youths and reduce stigma and discrimination
  2. Create awareness on the role of mothers, men on HIV/AIDS prevention, protection and empowerment among youths and children.
  3. Develop, Publish and distribute Informative, Educative and Communication (I.E.C) and Behaviour Change and Communication (BCC) Materials to counties (posters, T. shirts, songs,) in mother tongue- for HIV/AIDS awareness and sensitization
  4. Raise awareness and promote positive attitudes to accept assist and care for people living with HIV/AIDS at home and in the community.
  5. Collaborate with community groups /leaders to lead community initiatives on HIV/AIDS awareness and health education through Sports, drama, radio talk show, play programming
  6. Distribute condoms among most at risk groups
  7. Hold Community meetings, form drama, music, dance and sports teams and retain
  8. Conduct sensitization workshop for local leaders, youths, women groups, teachers on HIV prevention
  9. Conduct outreach activities to distribute IEC materials and condoms, and organize drama, songs to create HIV/AIDS awareness
  10. Conduct radio talk shows and BCC messages relayed on HIV prevention awareness

WASH

 “Poor Health” in this context means; is mainly the use of unsafe and unclean water of which fecal matter of both humans and animals is ingredient can be seen around, Animals and humans use the same source of water from streams and ponds. Low awareness about these problems, perceptions of the target population about the causes and their effects on the live of the people still remains to be a major problem.

The following causes and effects were by Innovative Development Initiative:

Causes: (a) Low awareness of good hygiene practices (b) Poor Hygiene promotion (c) Inadequate Sanitary inspections (d) Use of water from streams and ponds shared with animal for domestic use (e) inadequate Sanitation facilities (f) untrained Hygiene Promoters (g) Inadequate planning for Hygiene promotion. (h) Inadequate involvement of Partner Organizations.  

Effects: (a) Poor Health of community (b) Increased morbidity (c) Increased community medical cost (d) Increased water and sanitation related diseases and deaths. (e) High levels of poverty.

Have access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations

    • Conduct days training of social mobilizers/volunteers in the target areas on cholera preventive and control
    • Intensive awareness raising including demonstrations on critical practices in community, schools, and market places by hygiene promoters
    • Conduct Public rallies on cholera including clean up campaigns in target locations
    • Orientation and training of community leaders, Teachers, church leaders, PTA on cholera prevention and control
    • Innovative Development Initiative will train young men and women as hand pump mechanics in collaboration with Directorate of water in State Innovative Development Initiative and focus on increasing access to water through the rehabilitation and the maintenance of broken down boreholes in any of the states.
    • Health behavior change communication techniques will also be employed to affect change on wider level and capacity building of the state and county staff to continue with awareness.
